A Message from IACD President Anna Clarke on our March 2020 Newsletter

IACD’s Focus on Women this Month

This week, we celebrated International Women’s Day in a big way. On Sunday, we released our fifteenth issue of Practice Insights: Community Development and Women’s Empowerment. Today, we are releasing our March 2020 Newsletter, and this edition has been sent to all current members of IACD.

President Anna Clarke’s Message for the Month

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to share our March Newsletter with you and once again highlight some of the great work that community development practitioners are engaged in around the world. Just last week we published our newest edition of Practice Insights on International Women’s Day, celebrating empowering community development practice by and for women around the world. The articles are inspiring, moving and challenging.  Congratulations to IACD Regional Directors for South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa, Anita Paul and Maryam Ahmadian who were Guest Editors on this excellent edition and to all the contributors for sharing their stories, experiences and insight.  Every edition of Practice Insights is a collaborative venture. I would also like to acknowledge and express our sincere appreciation to Suzanne Bickerdyke of SMB Design Works whose creativity, and design expertise make Practice Insights such an engaging publication; and to Meredith Greta, IACD Administrator and Membership Secretary for her sharp eye, commitment and professionalism.  Both Suzanne and Mere worked above and beyond the call of duty to bring this edition to launch in time for International Women’s Day.

The contributions in this edition of Practice Insights alone, are inspiring examples of the quality community development work that we as practitioners are engaged in around the world. As a global networking organisation, a core role for us is to enable and facilitate the sharing of and learning from practice.  To support this, a key initiative that we are taking forward is work on a Global Community Development Reader/Handbook. In the coming weeks, we will be inviting expressions of interest for case study contributions that address the key themes within the International Standards for Community Development Practice.  If you have community development practice examples to share, we would love to hear from you.  Watch out on social media and in our next Newsletter for more details!

Today, around the world we are all trying to make sense of the rapidly changing circumstances created by the Covid 19 pandemic.  Its impact is far-reaching and uncertain. Within IACD we are preparing a message to support us as community development practitioners, and share some simple points for our practice under these circumstances.  Despite the uncertainties, the values of our practice remain true and can help to shape and inform how we respond in our relationships with each other and our work with communities. If you have approaches you would like to share, please email us at info@iacdglobal.org

On behalf of the IACD Board, thank you for your continued support.  Our hopes remain the best outcomes for all.
