Spotlight on IACD’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean


Ursula Harman Canalle has been IACD’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean since joining the board in 2016. Ursula is a sociologist specialising in social inclusion in science, technology and innovation processes. She is lecturer at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and researcher in sectoral systems of innovation, inclusive institutions in innovation processes and resilience in rural communities. She is a community development practitioner and she is also an elected district councilwoman of San Bartolo, Peru, for the period 2019-2022, and Eisenhower Fellow.


Current Work


Ursula serves on IACD’s Training, Publications, and Professional Development Committee.

Ursula is in the middle of a twenty-day field excursion in Bolivian mines. Currently working with her mentor, Prof. Helen Ross, they are studying the resilience characteristics of three communities in Bolivia that will be affected by the future closure of the mine.
