COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE JOINT 4TH IACD NIGERIA MEMBERS’ MEETING AND 3RD NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CONSULTATIVE CONFERENCE/WORKSHOP:
HELD AT KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, MALETE, KWARA STATE, NIGERIA BETWEEN 11TH – 14TH OCTOBER 2016
Over 60 IACD Nigeria members attended this conference. Topics covered included:
Education and Community Development
Peace, Conflict and Disaster Management
Health Sector, Welfare and Youth Development
Policy Frameworks, Community Change and Faith Based Issues
Community Participation and Voluntary Sector
Innovations, Communications and Extension Support Issues
At the end of the event, the following communique was issued (key points).
IACD – Nigerian members should work towards developing minimum academic standards for the training of the CD practitioners in Nigeria.
2. Kwara State University should introduce degree and professional programmes in community development to enhance manpower development.
3. IACD – Nigeria members should actively be involved in utilizing existing working groups and social media platforms for strengthening networking and
communications among members.
4. All higher institutions of learning in Nigeria are encouraged to institutionalize community development in all their programmes and to actively involve catchment communities.
5. IACD – Nigeria, in collaboration with community stakeholders will identify and recognize Individuals whose inputs and impacts have been felt in communities at regular intervals.
7. IACD – Nigeria members should have an executive structure in place for the day today running of the Association
8. IACD – Nigeria members are encouraged to reach out to other community developers and collaborate with other relevant Community Development Associations in the country through effective publicity.
