The International Association for Community Development (IACD) is delighted to announce the appointment of Anna Clarke as its new Strategic Director, following a rigorous and competitive recruitment process.  

Anna brings over 35 years’ professional Community Development experience, commitment to social justice and human rights, and significant understanding of IACD's mission and operations. As a qualified Community Worker in Liverpool Anna’s career began in neighbourhood community work followed by immigration support with refugees and asylum seekers. After moving to Northern Ireland in the 1990’s she spent a decade as Community Development Learning Coordinator working with rural communities across Northern Ireland, followed by 15 years in Community Development consultancy. Anna now works with the All-Ireland Endorsement Body for Community Work Education and Training.

Anna’s appointment comes at an important time for IACD. Having served as Chair of the IACD Board for six years, Anna played a key role in leading the development of the new 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. Her in depth knowledge of the organisation, international networks and professional experience position her to immediately drive IACD’s strategic vision forward, translating it into beneficial impact.

Michelle Dunscombe, Acting Chair said “Anna’s proven track record in strategic leadership, organisational governance, and her extensive Community Development experience make her the ideal person for this role. Her in-depth knowledge of IACD, combined with her commitment to the purpose and values of the discipline and practice, will be invaluable as we work together to maximise IACD’s impact in this ever-changing and complex world."

On her appointment, Anna said, "I am delighted and very enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with IACD in this new capacity. I am deeply committed to IACD and I look forward to working with Trustees and our global membership and community to advocate for and promote Community Development, facilitate diverse engagement and active participation and collaboration, and ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of our organisation."

Anna takes up her post from 4^th August 2025.
