International Association for Community Development’s statement on International Human Rights Day 2022

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY, 10th December 2022

As International Human Rights day dawns and the year ends, IACD calls on all involved in Community Development everywhere to redouble our efforts towards the making of a peaceful sustainable world where in which communities throughout the world and especially marginalised and minority groups can fully participate and have their voices heard.

2022 has not brought peace or justice or real progress toward the climate, our planet, our children, and future generations deserve. It has brought renewed conflicts and wars including in Ukraine. It has reinforced injustice and denial for Injustice Peoples and an upsurge in the numbers of people seeking refuge from wars and lack of livelihoods. We stand with those who have stood and continue to stand with those who suffer and resist and acknowledge the ways in which women in war situations suffer differentially.

We call on our leaders locally nationally and globally to recall and put in place ways to live by the principles of the Declaration on Human Rights. Leaders must take action and must lead by demonstrating their capacity to collaborate to create the future.

The right to have rights cannot continue to be denied to any human being.
