Call for Articles

The Australian Journal of Community Work is an annual, peer-reviewed journal that encourages enquiry and rigorous research into the broad field of community services work. It is produced by the Australian Community Workers Association Inc. (ACWA) and was first published in the 1970s as Welfare in Australia and then in the early 2000s as Practice Reflections. It has now been rejuvenated into the Australian Journal of Community Work (AJCW) and is included on the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) listing. The AJCW is prepared by a respected Editor and a distinguished Editorial Advisory Board.

In today’s world community work practitioners are professionals in their own right: qualified, highly skilled and an integral part of the human services workforce – however this has not come easily. Over the last 50 years this journal has been operating community work has evolved, often unnoticed and unacknowledged, into a profession. One aim of this journal is to contribute to public recognition of this field of endeavour and the contribution provided by those involved in producing considerable community outcomes that support social change across Australia.

This call for papers is for generic articles about research, policy, and projects within the community services sector, as well as more specific ones that contribute to the education, training and recognition of professional community work practitioners, academics, and researchers.

Sections within the publication include:
• Peer-reviewed Articles.
• ‘From the Field’ – relevant sector assessed (non-peer reviewed) papers, stories, case studies and opinion pieces relating to community work.
• ‘From the Study Desk’ – contribution from students studying in this broad field of work, covering their education and training, their journey and stories relating to the sector.
• ‘From the Sector’ – including previously published articles (with full copyright approvals), and other relevant information.
• Book reviews and current events.
• ACWA Updates including the Australian Community Workers Foundation.

This call for the next edition of AJCW closes on the 30th April 2023. Once articles have been reviewed and accepted, they will be lodged on our website, prior to the journal being fully collated annually, downloadable from the website at no cost. We are now accepting papers for the next edition.
