World Community Development Conference 2022

Conference dates

The conference will take place from 20 – 22 June 2022.

Conference theme and vision

The 2022 World Community Development Conference is being co-organized by the International Association for Community Development and the Inclusive Practices Network whose headquarters are in Georgia. We are proud to represent Georgia, a small country on the eastern coast of the Black Sea with the biggest, warmest and proudest heart in the world. Being the cradle of the eastern European civilization, Georgia has a history and culture that goes back thousands of years and a diverse, carefully protected nature.

The need for human connection, contact and empathy has never been as high as now, when humanity as a whole has been faced with incredible hardship, sorrow and loss.

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we all live, work and connect to each other.  Community development practice is in a unique position to bring people together to face these challenges in a post-pandemic world and explore the multitude of opportunities that diversity and inclusion provide.

International agencies like the WHO, national governments, medical and research institutions worked hard to provide support, vaccinations and medical care. Yet from the start of the pandemic, it has been community development agencies and practitioners who have used their expertise to help those who have been the hardest hit – communities who experience inequality, disadvantage, and marginalization. During this time, community development practitioners have also provided much needed emotional support and comfort to combat loneliness and isolation, as well as supporting people to join together as we enter a post-pandemic world to challenge inequality.

WCDC2022 brings us all an opportunity to come together to draw upon the learning we have gained as community development practitioners, educators and researchers working through a global pandemic.  This conference will be our opportunity for community development practitioners globally to come together to share insights and set priorities to strengthen inclusion and equality for all in a post-pandemic world.

Conference format

Living in the world combating a global pandemic we’ve come to realize the value of human interaction, contact and affection as never before.

We hope that WCDC2022 will be able to take place face-to-face with people coming together in person.  However, since the future of international travel remains uncertain, the main events at the WCDC2022 will also be held in virtual formats allowing a maximum number of people to share their ideas, research, visions and findings in community development theory and practice.

In the first instance, we are inviting delegates to register for virtual participation and indicate interest in taking part face-to-face if conditions allow.  In January 2022, the planning committee will review travel regulations and notify delegates if an in-person conference is possible and offer the opportunity to upgrade tickets at that point.

Click here to register to attend online – you will be able to indicate your availability for an in-person conference during the registration process.
