Farewell to Charlie McConnell – Well almost!

Past President Charlie McConnell has retired as Managing Editor of the IACD website, Facebook sites and of Practice Insights magazine. Charlie created the design and content of the new website, and managed the move to the on-line magazine, editing the past six issues. Followers of both the Official and Members’ IACD Facebook sites have doubled over this period and nearly 40000 people have visited the new website.

Charlie was thanked for his work at the 2018 AGM and last year awarded IACD’s first Lifetime Achievement Award. He is IACD’s longest continuous serving IACD member joining in 1977 . He first joined the Board in 1989 and played the lead role in re-establishing IACD with its HQ in Scotland in 1998.

Charlie, who was the author of IACD’s global definition of community development, adopted by the association, following member consultation in 2016, also initiated and chaired the International Standards for Community Development Practice task group, co-authoring its report, which was launched at the 2018 AGM. He will remain a member of the association’s Training, Publications and Professional Development Committee to take forward the translation and dissemination of the report worldwide over the coming year.  The author and editor of several books on community development, Charlie wrote his book Finding Our Voice, reflecting upon his work in this field, in 2014.  https://www.iacdglobal.org/2014/08/01/finding-our-voice-by-charlie-mcconnell/
