IACD’s OPEN LETTER TO THE U.N. FOR THE SDG DAY OF ACTION.

REALISING THE U.N. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS THROUGH IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF DEVELOPMENT PRACTICE.

The international Association for Community Development (IACD) is the worldwide professional network of community development practitioners. We are accredited to the U.N. Central to IACD’s work is a commitment to enhancing the quality of practice of development professionals working with the most vulnerable communities as they seek to address the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

This year, as a contribution to IACD’s support for the SDG Day of Action, we have published a report called Towards Shared International Standards for Community Development Practice, which we wish to bring to the U.N’s attention.

This report builds upon decades of experience by development practitioners on the ground, by IACD and national community development associations, and by the thousand H.E. institutions that provide professional training for development work. The report is currently available in English and Russian and over the coming weeks will be published in Swahili, Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, French and Arabic.

I should be most grateful if you would bring these International Standards to the attention of the various parts of the U.N. concerned with capacity building programmes intended to support vulnerable communities.

IACD is able and keen to provide advice and continuing professional development support to U.N colleagues and NGOs through our many conferences, practice exchanges, workshops and on-line repository of teaching and learning resources. You will find more information about these on our website https://www.iacdglobal.org/

Yours Sincerely

Paul Lachapelle
