Great turnout at this year’s Annual General Meeting

Over 70 participated in this year’s AGM which took place at Maynooth University, Ireland. The meeting was chaired by Paul Lachapelle, IACD President. The treasurer also presented the Auditor’s report for the year and the auditor was reappointed. You will find a copy of the Auditor’s draft report for the financial year 2017/18 attached here.  IACD audited accounts 2018 draft  This was approved at the AGM.

Anna Clarke presented the International Standards for Community Development Practice report, which was formally launched at the AGM.

Anastasia Crickley was presented with the Global Ambassador Award in 2018.  A Vice President of IACD Anastasia was presented the Award to honour her over forty years’ community development experience working for the rights of marginalised, minority and migrant communities. And also for her work at the United Nations, as the President of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, where in that role she enhanced the profile of both the association and of community development internationally.

Muhammad Shitu was presented with the Global Ambassador Award in 2018 for his outstanding work in promoting the association and community development and community development education in Nigeria and West Africa. Muhammad has been a Vice President of IACD and is the Regional Director – Africa, South Sahara and was a co-founder of the Nigerian Institute for Community Development Practitioners and of the Nigerian CD Journal. He has organised several regional conferences for IACD and the Nigerian Association. In recent years his untiring efforts has seen the largest growth in the association’s membership in Africa.

Special thanks were also given by the President, together with a gift to Past Treasurer Rob Gregory for his four years as Board member and treasurer. And thanks to Past President Charlie McConnell who is standing down as managing editor of the website and magazine.

New Board members appointed at AGM for Africa and South East Asia.

Catherine Wanjohi, IACD’s Country Correspondent for Kenya was appointed to the Board in 2018, as our third Board member and Director for Africa. Catherine is a co founder and current CEO of Life Bloom Services International in Kenya. She has over 14 years experience supporting women and girls trapped in prostitution, poverty and violence related livelihoods towards social-economic transformed lives. She is a consultant in transformative leadership coaching and mentoring, in the field of corporate governance and community development. Catherine is an ambassador with Safaricom Foundation World of Difference and a Commonwealth Foundation Peer Mentor  for Civil Society Leadership.

 

Asnarulkhadi Abu Samah from Malaysia was appointed a Board member in 2018.  Asnarul is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Development Sciences, University Putra Malaysia, and now serves as the Director at the Institute for Social Science Studies, University Putra Malaysia. He has over 20 years of experience in the field of community development and community work and has been actively involved in community development research, particularly in climate change and human adaptability, community empowerment, public health, and indigenous people. Besides, he is also engaged in education and training on the community work modules for community-based organisations, non-governmental organisations, and government agencies.
