Scottish Community Development Conferences Season

Two national community development conferences are taking place in September and October supported by IACD partners the Scottish Community Development Network and the Scottish Community Development Centre.

SCDN’s FREE conference this year will take place on Wednesday 25th October from 10am to 4pm at Townhead Village Hall, 60 St Mungo Ave, Glasgow, G4 0PL. Our members are always telling us that the most beneficial part of our events is when they have time to discuss practice issues in detail and learn from one and other so this will be an important part of the programme.

Its keynote speaker is Andy Milne, Chief Executive of Surf and our workshops will be facilitated by our members who will present a real life piece of work, showing it’s context, exploring practice issues and any challenges and how they dealt with them. During the afternoon workshops there will be time for you to relate this to your own practice and look at ongoing support and solutions. We are also looking to offer more innovative ways of capturing your feedback this year so as to further strengthen your voice as our members. Our AGM will take place at the end of the conference.

Places are limited and are going fast so register at the below link. Please ensure if you are unable to attend you cancel your place. As our funding is limited, a fee will be charged for any uncancelled places to cover our costs.

SCDN Fife Regional Network Meeting

Over the past few months, SCDN has been working closely with Fife CLD to establish a local Fife based Network.

Following on from an initial meeting with Community Education Staff on 25th April with SCDN all those who attended agreed that there would be real benefits in establishing a Fife network which would provide support and advice to community development practitioners. Participants also agreed that the opportunity to network with community development colleagues to discuss issue based work would be invaluable.

The launch of the first Fife Network meeting will take place on Wednesday 13th September from 1.30pm – 4pm, Room 10 at Rothes Halls. If you would like to attend please could you confirm by emailing Claire Bruce (claire.bruce-CS@fife.gov.uk) no later than Friday 8th September. An agenda will be sent out to participants on confirmation.

Please feel free to circulate this invitation to any other relevant partners who you think would be interested in becoming involved in the network.

Unlocking the potential of Erasumus+ Worshops

Xchange Scotland and YouthLink Scotland have been funded by the European Commission (through its representation in the UK) to promote and support organisations in Scotland to participate in the Erasmus+ programme, and enable more young people across Scotland to benefit from European funding and international volunteering opportunities.

To spread the word about these projects and how to apply, they will be running a series of interactive workshops which aim to give organisations the information necessary to apply for an Erasmus+ project that’s best suited to your needs and interests. The workshops will equip you with all the information you need to know about Erasmus+, the practicalities of funding applications, and the benefits your organisation can hope to gain through applying. They will also support organisations through peer support and free, tailored individual mentoring guidance to develop applications.

The workshops will focus on youth mobility funding, and cover the following areas:

– The benefits young people and organisations can gain from being involved in Erasmus+ projects.

– Information about types of projects, case studies and countries involved in the Erasmus+ programme.

– Different types of exchanges for young people (EVS, youth exchange and youth worker mobility training and seminars). This includes who is eligible to go on an exchangewhere exchanges take place and the duration of Erasmus+ projects.

– Information regarding funding and how funding is allocated.

– Practical guidance and support for applications.

– Information on finding partner organisations.

– Games to get to know each other and Erasmus+ better!

If this sounds like something you and your organisation would like to be involved in, sign up for one of the free workshops below:

Scottish C0-production Network Learning Event: Participation and Co-Production

Friday 15th September 2017
9.30 am (Registration) for 10.00am start- 12.30pm
Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen

This SCN learning event will bring together network members to learn more and share experiences about how co-production based approaches can be used within community planning.

Part 2 “Community Planning” of the Community Empowerment Act places a strong emphasis on participation and co-production. But what does co-production in community planning look like? How do we best create the conditions for communities to be fully involved in community planning processes?

This event will start to explore how we respond to these key challenges and provide a chance to see how practice is already developing across the country.
