Dear IACD member/subscriber,
This is the busiest period in the year for the IACD office. We are close to welcoming several hundred participants to our July international conference, jointly run this year with the U.S. Community Development Society in Minnesota. It continues our priority focus upon the theme of Sustainability and the implications for community development of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the conference we hold our Annual General meeting. I have already written to IACD members inviting Nominations for the vacant places on the IACD Board. At the July Board meeting and AGM we shall also be considering revisions to our constitution and approving a new Position Statement on CD and the SDGs.
This month also sees the publication of our magazine Practice Insights. I am delighted to be sending an on-line copy to you with this Newsletter mailing. We have now gone over only to on-line publications, although hard copies of the magazine will be available for you if you are at the Minnesota conference.
At the AGM I stand down as President of the association after two years and altogether eighteen as a Board member. I had the great pleasure of moving our HQ to Scotland, from Belgium in 1998 and have been involved in organising nine of IACD’s events around the world – in the UK, South Africa, the Middle East, the USA, India, Hungary, Thailand and New Zealand. It has been a great privilege and my enormous thanks to all members and friends of the association. I shall not be leaving the association completely however, and as a Past President and adviser I look forward to supporting our new President, Paul Lachapelle and the Board in the year ahead.
