IACD Welcomes our new President and Vice President

It was announced at IACD’s AGM this summer that Anna Clarke, IACD’s Regional Representative for Europe, and Catherine Wanjohi, IACD’s Regional Representative for Sub-Sahara Africa were elected President and Vice President respectively.

Anna is based in Northern Ireland and is Director for Communities at Prospect Community,  a community interest company that specialises in learning design and development within the fields of community development, governance and community-based learning.

Anna has worked in the field of community development practice for over 30 years across Northern Ireland and England. This has included neighbourhood youth/community work, refugee and immigration support and cooperative, economic enterprise development and rural community development across Northern Ireland.   

In 2007 Anna began working independently, providing specialist community development consultancy services including design and delivery of learning and training programmes, provision of strategic organisational development and governance support, community engagement and consultation processes, community-based research, and programme evaluation. 

Anna’s first degree is in English with African/Asian Studies.  She holds post-graduate diplomas in Youth and Community Work and Women’s Studies. She also has an MA in Human Rights and Equal Opportunities and an MSc in Governance and Community Planning.


Catherine Mumbi Wanhoji has served as IACD’s Country Correspondent for Kenya and Regional Director for Sub Sahara Africa. She is an alumni of Kenyatta University (Kenya) and the University of Durham UK.  

Catherine is also an Ambassador for Safaricom Foundation World of Difference and a Peer Mentor for Civil Societies with Commonwealth Foundation. She advances all-inclusive participatory approaches and good governance practices to community development.  She is a coach and mentor on transformative leadership.

Catherine is a founding member and current Executive Director at Life Bloom Services International, Kenya. Her passion and dedication to serve humanity through   the very vulnerable women, girls and children who are often survivors of violence, exploitation/abuse, domestic and international trafficking in persons leading to the development of creative and innovative community transformation models in Kenya.
