I am the Director of Agro Tech Organization Society Uganda (ATOS) which works with women, youth and rural farmers in communities. We provide education and training in information technology to rural primary and secondary school teachers as well as students and farmers. We provide resources for social, economic and personal empowerment. Our headquarters are in Mukono Ndese Nab bale Sub County.
Since we started in 2007, we have achieved an Increased Access to Enterprise Driven Extension services both in agriculture and computer training program in rural areas. This has helped our farmers and primary and secondary schools to have access to qualified technical extension services which in turn has lead to increased productivity. In this process, 21 schools have been identified for the program. For more information see the website www.agrotechuganda.org.
I started a women's project in July 2012 after coming back from the international conference for social workers in Sweden (Joint World Conference on Social Work and Social Development: Action and impact 2012). The women of the local community where we serve have been gifted with very resilient, hardworking and determined spirits. However, they lack two important ingredients in putting these gifts in to action: Capital and Training. Seizing on the potential we see in these amazing women, we are equipping them with training and basic supplies to start small craft businesses besides agriculture activities.
I am a member of IACD because as a social worker, I need to work hand in hand with a team to save the lives of many people around the world. This is the only way problems can be handled and solved completely.
