Help Support the IACD local group in Pakistan respond to the floods.  A message from the IACD Asia Regional Director, Shakeel Abro, from Pakistan:
Thank you for the concern you've shown during recent tragedy in Pakistan.  We are facing a worst flood here in Pakistan and the number of people suffering from the massive floods in Pakistan exceeds 13 million – more than the combined total of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

After Balochistan and Khyber Pukhatoonkhuwa, flood and heavy rains have badly affected Sindh Province of Pakistan. Threat of increasing damage to millions of people and their property is fostering. Since last two-three days, floodwater with heavy rains has entered in Sindh with huge intensity and larger capacity, which seems to be uncontrollable and devastating. It has affected more than one million people in few districts of Sindh. Till now, more than 400 breaches have been reported in different canals resulting into severe inundation which has destroyed properties of billion rupees including the ruining houses, destroying crops and livestock along home appliances and other valuable things. Damage to public infrastructure is in addition to the loss of private property.

The monies raised through this effort will support the Mehran Socio Cultural Forum. The Mehran Forum is a multi-sector registered non-governmental, non-partisan and non-sectarian organization, which has been led by volunteers for the past 39 years. The mission of the organisation is to support communities to help themselves through action oriented application of knowledge, skills & resources to create an empowered, environmentally friendly society.

Mehran Forum is a member of the local chapter of IACD and is playing a lead role along with other member organisations like Sindh Rural Development Council-SRDC, SPO, HANDS, and others to respond to the flood disaster in Pakistan.

The organisation is based in Hala Sindh, one of the areas most affected by the flooding. The money will be used in relief efforts to cope with the effects of the flooding, and, in particular, will be spent on (a) the provision of food, safe drinking water and shelters to those affected by the foods, (b) provision of educational facilities for kids who have been relocated to living in shelters/camps, and (c) provision of work opportunities to skilled persons living in the camps.

A report detailing the work and how the money has been spent will be provided on the IACD website within 6 months of the fundraising efforts.

Help support IACD and local grassroots community development workers in Pakistan!

Warm Regards,
