Asset-building in Europe
Members of the European Microfinance Network’s asset building working group (the Indigo network), met on May 25th in Brussels to exchange updates on innovative new approaches to tackling poverty through asset building. The group, which IACD facilitates, aims to bring into focus the importance of saving (financial asset-building) by individuals and communities, to reduce financial and social exclusion among low-income people. In European societies, which in recent years have become heavily focused on consumption and credit, the arguments against debt and for assets are gathering steam.
The group also participated in the first ever conference of the European Financial Inclusion Network (EFIN), which works at policy level to develop coherent approaches to ensuring that all people in Europe are able to access and use appropriate financial services and products.
