Upcoming Events in Oceania

IACD Member Catch-up Sessions

At IACD, we are continually looking for ways to connect our members for the purposes of learning, collaboration, and growth. On the first Wednesday of each month, our members in Oceania and elsewhere are welcome to attend a catch-up session with Regional Director for Oceania Dee Brooks and Country Correspondent for Australia, Michelle Dunscombe. The next session is taking place on Wednesday, 2nd September at 13:00 AEST / 15:00 NZST, and the theme is, “How can community development support local government planning?” For joining instructions, please email Dee at dee.brooks@iacdglobal.org.

Upcoming Events in the Region

There are several events taking place in the coming months that IACD would like to bring to the attention of our members.

September

The first event is a virtual workshop series titled, “ABCD: Measuring what matters! Is anyone better off?” This workshop will take place over three dates — the 4th, 11th, and 18th of September from 12:00 – 14:00 AEST. Dee, Michelle, and IACD member Fiona Miller will facilitate along with Beth Stockton. More information from the organizers can be read below:

How do we know our community work is making a difference and if anyone is truly better off as a result? During this 3 week series we explore asset based community development and participatory evaluation tools (using the Results Based Accountability™ (RBA) framework), to measure the social impact of local initiatives. Join us for 3 immersive and interactive sessions that will introduce you to the fundamentals of asset-based community development (ABCD) and how participatory evaluation can measure community actions and outcomes.

The Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania 2020 State Conference is also taking place in September from the 23rd – 25th on the theme, “Open the Doors – Raise the Roof – Spring into Action.” You can register to attend this virtual event here.

October

In October, the Power to the People 2020 Conference will meet from the 29th – 30th.

This Conference will bring together people from across Australia who share a personal or professional passion for building citizen driven communities to:

–discover the power of harnessing social capital and local assets to help address the complex and entrenched financial, social and environmental issues that challenge our communities;
–discover the power of local, ‘bottom up’ and asset based approaches to strengthen community;
–explore the institutions and structures which both impede and enhance citizen driven efforts;
–explore a range of tools and methodologies that will empower people to believe, behave and act like citizens in control of their community and their destiny;
–discover like-minded people with whom to network with and create a lasting legacy of peer-to-peer learning; and above all,
have fun!
