IACD is governed by an international Board of Directors of up to 14 elected members and up to 6 additional co-opted members, each representing one of seven global regions:
- Europe, including the Russian Federation
- Middle East and North Africa
- Sub Saharan Africa
- Oceania (New Zealand, Australia, Pacific nations)
- Latin America and the Caribbean islands
- North America
The President, Vice President(s), Secretary General and Treasurer are elected from within the Board. Directors serve for up to three terms of three years each.
The current President is from Australia, the Vice-President from the USA and the Treasurer from the UK. Details of our current Board members are here.

IACD has been active since 1953 in supporting community development internationally. In 1999, the IACD was re-constituted and the Secretariat moved to Scotland. IACD is a registered Scottish charity (number SC036090).
IACD holds an Annual General Meeting each year, usually coinciding with an international conference or learning programme, in which members discuss the business of the organisation. IACD also produces an annual report with the financial statements of the organisation that are reviewed by an independent examiner.
