DUNDEE, SCOTLAND CONFIRMED AS VENUE FOR JUNE 2019 WORLD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Dundee City Council has confirmed that it wishes to host the 2019 World Community Development Conference. The Council has long been an IACD municipal member, with one of its senior officers, Stewart Murdoch having also served for ten years as an IACD Board member and latterly as Vice President until he retired from the Board in 2015. Since February, the IACD Board has been in negotiations with the City Council in North East Scotland. Board members Clare MacGillivray and Colette McGarva have led these discussions from the association’s side, with Stewart leading a team including Marie Dailly, head of the Council’s community learning and development service, and staff from the Council’s conference support service.Stewart Murdoch confirmed the partnership on 6th April. Marie Dailly will chair the Local Advisory Group and local planning committee. IACD’s international conferences take 18 months to plan. This would be the third time that the international conference will have been held in Scotland, since the association was re-constituted in Scotland in 1998.

IACD President, Paul Lachapelle said that he and the Board were thrilled with the prospect of Dundee hosting the 2019 conference and looked forward to close collaboration with the City Council and other partners in Scotland.  More information will be posted. The 2019 WCDC venue will be announced at the 2018 WCDC in Ireland in June.
