Montana, U.S.A hosts hundreds of community developers for CDS/NACDEP conference

June 11-14 sees what’s set to be a hugely successful conference on community development across America, organised jointly by the U.S. Community Development Society and the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals. They have just published what looks set to be a tremendously rich programme. Keynote sessions include such themes as – Can The Arts Help Save Rural America?  Standing Rock: Bold Partnerships Forged Through Community Action.  Lyricism and Leadership: Hip Hop as a Form of Community Development.

IACD has a close association with CDS, following the signing of a joint Memorandum of Association in 2015 and our jointly organised international conference last year in Minnesota.  Recently we have been building closer links with NACDEP. The June 2016 issue of Practice Insights has an article about their work written by IACD President Paul Lachapelle. And Paul, wearing his hat as Local Host Committee Chair, will be welcoming participants at the opening session of the conference.

It is wonderful to see hundreds of community developers gathering together in the USA at a challenging time for CD policy and practice in America and for American support for international development programmes.  We are pleased to see the importance of sustainable development once again running through the programme. We wish the participants a great conference and look forward to sharing with IACD members its outcomes.
